The photograph is about the subject. Composition and lighting are used to record, capture, emphasize, disguise, and or portray the subject. You may capture the subject in their enviornment, or separate them from that environment.
When composing a picture think about the subject. What is it? What am I trying to capture? Is there anything that I can do (composition, lighting, exposure, lens selection...) that will help to emphasize the subject. Is there anything in the picture that distracts from the subject that can be eliminated, moved, or de-emphasized?
I make pictures using mostly Leica and Nikon gear.
I have almost competely gone over to the dark side.
It started with the Coolpix 5700. Since the purchase of the D-70 I have shot about 98% digital.
